Off the shelf

I've been reading lots lately. A good habit that I'm trying to get back into while attempting to drop a few bad ones at the same time. Here are the ones I've finished within the past week:

Food Rules: An Eater's Manual - Good little read with lots of tips about eating well. Such as, "Eat only foods that will eventually rot." Or "It's not food if it's called by the same name in every language. (Think Big Mac, Pringles and Cheetos)."

Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin and the Race of a Lifetime - Fascinating book about the 2008 presidential election. One of the more unbiased things I've read in a long time about any politician. They skewer each one equally.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightening Thief and The Sea of Monsters - Let's see, how do I categorize this? I don't love it as much as Harry Potter but way more than the Twilight series. Is that accurate? Fun tweenager read about a boy who finds out his dad is a god - as in the Greek kind. Sadly I've learned more about major gods and mythology from the first two books of this set than I did in 9th grade English class.

The Curse of the Good Girl: Raising Authentic Girls with Courage and Confidence - I really enjoy books that step back and take critical looks at society. This was a fantastic book and I highly recommend it for anyone that has daughters.

On the list for the next few weeks:
  • American Women: Four Hundred Years of Dolls, Drudges, Helpmates and Heroines
  • When Everything Changed: The Amazing Journey of American Women from 1960 to the Present
  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
  • Crazy/Love
