Superstitious

My hand is itching today. I happened to mention that to a friend of mine here at work and said, "I guess I should be expecting some money soon." She had no idea what that meant.

In my family, we grew up hearing these things all the time. Always go out the door you entered in; don't sweep under someone's feet or that person will never get married; never bring an empty dish back to it's owner.

So I got curious. Are there other superstitions out there that I better be aware of? Look at what I found:
  • If you make a bedspread, or a quilt, be sure to finish it or marriage will never come to you.
  • To prevent an unwelcome guest from returning, sweep out the room they stayed in immediately after they leave.
  • If your nose itches you will soon be kissed by a fool.
  • If you bite your tongue while eating, it is because you have recently told a lie.
  • If a single woman sleeps with a piece of wedding cake under her pillow, she will dream of her future husband. (Um, ew.)
  • It is bad luck to close a pocket knife unless you were the one who opened it. (I knew this one.)
  • Cows lifting their tails is a sure sign that rain is coming.

You can "catch" a bird by shaking salt on its tail. (I believed this forever.)
