Something to look forward to

One of the advantages of working for the same company for 11 years is that you accrue an awesome amount of vacation time. Not that I usually have time to use it all. But I decided that this year, I'm going to try. I'm going to save enough for the holidays but also look at doing something every month that is fun.

There are times of the year that I know I can't take off and that's fine. It comes with the territory. And I doubt I'll use all the days but since they are considered part of my compensation, I will try my best.

The first few months of this year I just stayed around Birmingham. I would take a Friday here and there just to run errands and enjoy playing hooky. Which I guess it's not hooky if you ask for it. Huh.

Now I've planned out the next few months and I'm pretty pumped about it.

Next week (for June), I'm going to Macon to visit D., Corrie, Isaiah and Ezra. I haven't been since last August so I'm overdue.

In July, I'm going to the beach with the family at Emerald Isle.

I'm still working on August but I have an idea. Details to follow.

In September, I'm headed to Nashville with my kindred spirit Jennifer for a retreat weekend with writers, artists, musicians and general creative types.

I haven't figured out October yet but I have a couple of options.

It's exciting to have something to look forward to and to be able to plan for things outside of work. I'm the first to admit that I can get bogged down easily and my job. I get caught up in all of my deadlines and forget to make time for me.

I never want to be too busy that I can't enjoy life or my friends and family. Anybody have any suggestions to add? I love to come visit! :)
