Eavesdropping one more time

This time, my friend Tomiko and I were talking about houses for sale in a very upscale section of Birmingham.

T: I can't believe all these big houses that are for sale. And look at them. I think they're empty.

Me: They are empty. There is nothing in them. Look in that front window.

T: These people are supposed to afford their houses.

Me: You know what? I bet they were foreclosures. And this is the kind of neighborhood that they would make a deal not to get that foreclosure sign slapped on the board.

T: You think?

Me: It makes sense to me. Who wants to see foreclosure signs across the street from the country club?

T: We are so negative.

Me: Sadly, that's reality. I'm glad I have a house I can afford.
