I'm not much for these here reality singing competitions on TV right now.
American Idol: It hurts my ears.
X Factor: Too mean. And it hurts my ears.
And all the others: How many more times do I have to hear someone screech at the top of their lungs for the sake of their art? Not art. Painful. And very bad for your vocal chords.
BUT (and that's one big but) I have one favorite that lives on my Tivo season pass. The Sing Off on NBC.
What? You're not watching it? What's wrong with you?
Groups from across America compete for a record deal and they do it all a cappella. I love it. I love all the different styles. The flair. The arrangements. And the judges are amazing. They actually know what they're talking about. They throw around big words like "modulation" and "syncopation."
I highly suggest you check it out. And for your viewing pleasure, my three favorite performances from this week are below. Two were totally swoon-worthy. Seriously, sing to me with a full back-up ensemble and I'd probably say yes to anything. Well, almost anything.
And the other is not a style I usually like but I loved this. Yes there are commercials first but I beg of you, give it a chance!
