Reconnecting

While visiting home this holiday, I had the opportunity to catch up with a couple of my favorite people from high school.

It has been years since we had sat down and visited and when I say years, I mean 10+ in both instances.

We look really similar to high school. I think we've held up pretty well.

And amazingly, our conversations had not changed too much. Sure, we talked about kids, spouses (or lack thereof), corporate America and our jobs but we also talked about our dreams. For the future - both distant and more immediate. We used to talk about dreams in the lunchroom, the classroom or the hallway.

The dreams may be different now but being able to share them is still something special.

And most importantly, there was laughter and understanding that only friends of 20 or more years can share. We know who we were in high school, remember it and really appreciate the adults we've become. The hard work we've done, the mistakes we've made and the choices that have made us who we are today.

I wonder what our 18-year-old, newly graduated selves would think of us today? I really do wonder.
