Peeking

I don't know if other families have this issue but surprises are a really big part of Christmas. My mom loves to surprise us and keep us from knowing what our presents even are. She goes so far as to label the Christmas presents in code. Numbers that only she understands and hopefully remembers when Christmas day actually arrives.

My Nanny puts the name tags on the bottom of the present making it almost impossible to snoop underneath the tree. She can tell if even one present has been moved.

I put name tags on the bottom too but for no other reason than I don't use ribbon so I don't like to mess up the top of the package with a sticker.

I was a busy little elf yesterday and wrapped all the presents I had on hand. Which is everything but three I am waiting to arrive. I don't put up a tree anymore so right now they are stacked at one end of my living room. And the following conversation occurred due to their presence over Sunday lunch:

Elizabeth: Wow you wrapped a lot of presents.

Me: Yeah. I'm way ahead this year.

Elizabeth: Do you put the names on the bottom of the present like Nanny?

Me: I do.

Elizabeth: Do you do that so no one will snoop and look for their present?

Me: No, I just do it because I like it.

Elizabeth: So I can go look for my present?

Me: Sure. You can if you want. But it's not over there.

Elizabeth: Oh.

Me: So look all you want.

Elizabeth: Nevermind.

One of my Lori "life nuggets" is putting gift labels on the bottoms of the presents. They can be such an eyesore, so your Nanny's sneaky sticker trick solves the eyesore, too! :)
