My car was broken into last night. Right outside my condo. Whoever did it smashed in my passenger side window and took my GPS off the dash. And that was all. Nothing else is missing and nothing else was touched.
If I had known someone had wanted it that bad, I would have left the door unlocked.
Not the best way to start a Monday but it is what it is. I called the police to file a report, called the insurance company to start a claim, called the dealership to put my name on the list and called the car rental place to reserve a car. All within 10 minutes.
I'm fairly impressed that I was only one hour late to work. Of course, they had to order the glass for the window so it won't be in until tomorrow. I don't anticipate getting my car back until Wednesday. That's $250 I wasn't expecting to spend this week but que sera sera.
The funny part is that a lot of people at work couldn't believe how calm I was about the whole thing. Yeah, I could have cried or gotten mad or felt violated but what good would that have done? I just needed to get my car somewhere out of the rain so it could get fixed.
I'll be like Pollyanna and play the glad game. I'm glad they didn't do any more damage to my car. I'm glad they didn't break into my house. I'm glad none of my neighbors had to deal with it too.
So here's my Public Service Announcement to everybody: Don't leave anything in your car that is worth stealing. Especially on the dashboard.
