Anyways, it's been a process in more ways than one starting with, "I'm not paying $1000 for a sofa!" leading to "For the money, this is perfect."
But as I was checking out yesterday, the sales dude was trying to sell me on a package that would protect the pieces from rips, tears and stains for five years. After a second, I looked at him and said, "You know, I don't have a husband, kids or a dog so I really don't think it's necessary."
And he said this, honest to goodness:
"No husband, no kids or a dog? You are a true American woman! You are awesome!"
I was taken aback at first and then I said thanks. He wished me well and went on his way.
His enthusiasm for who I am really made my day. Yes, it is pretty awesome and I am so blessed.
And for all my family and friends that set great examples of independent woman before me, this is a great quote from my favorite TV show, Mad Men.
"And no one will tell you this, but you can't be a man. Don't even try. Be a woman. Powerful business when done correctly." - Bobbie Barrett
