Train of thought

I have had a great week of vacation! It's been busier than probably normal people's vacations but I've never been one to be normal. I've built a web site, taken a grand tour of northern Pittsylvania County, gone to a work meeting in Raleigh, toured antique shops, been to a minor league baseball game and continued the running regimen.

The running. Ug. This is the point now that if I didn't have someone doing it with me and I was doing it all on my own, I would give up. It's hard and I'm tired and I think I'm never going to break through. But I know I will. I just have to keep going.

I finished one book - "An Unlikely Disciple" (which I highly recommend) - and started another one that I am almost halfway through - "The Girl Who Played With Fire" (not for the faint of heart).

I've also gotten to spend some good alone time just thinking. I know I live alone in Alabama but I'm always busy. I have work. I have board meetings. I have church. I have commitments. Here, I'm left alone. I can think of what I want, who I am, who I want to be and make some plans. I start redecorating my condo in my head - hardwoods, new furniture, new paint, new artwork.

Tonight we're headed to probably my favorite restaurant EVER - Old Country Club Steakhouse. I have eaten at places with four stars, fine china, rave reviews and astronomical prices. I have also eaten at places with funky decor, plastic silverware and laminated menus. And nothing - I repeat NOTHING - will ever compete with Chub Lake.

Ah vacation - it's good for the soul.
