I've been reviewing some resumes today. As well as receiving emails from eager young minds asking for my input on their future.
I want some input on MY future but that's neither here nor there.
I am always glad to dole out advice when asked. Sometimes when not but I try to keep that in check. And it is a sad state of society when I don't see one person I want working with me in a litter of 10 that file through.
It's not mean. It's not negative. It's a fact. Professional is as professional does. How you represent yourself through email, resumes, Facebook and Twitter is important! No matter how old you are.
So I developed a list of Thou Shalts and Thou Shalt Nots for reference. Please, feel free to use any of these:
Thou shalt send me an email that is respectful and contains no slang language if I have never met you.
Thou shalt not email incessantly asking if I have any other tips.
Thou shalt learn to use BCC and only use it when necessary. Not just because you know it's there.
Thou shalt not use excessive punctuation. Ellipses, exclamation points and question marks are all offensive when used too often.
Thou shalt always use complete sentences.
Thou shalt always use proper capitalization.
I would think some of these are common sense but so many people don't realize that EVERYTHING is a reflection of you. Young, old, big, small.
Good grammar never hurt anybody. Can we all agree on that?

Preach. It. (Excessive punctuation? Maybe.)
