Another weekend in May. Another graduation.
This time for Elizabeth, my cousin and now I can honestly say my friend.
I in no way influenced Elizabeth to attend my alma mater Samford University in Birmingham. They had visited maybe twice while I was in school but as she approached her senior year of high school, I did nothing to talk it up.
But she chose Samford. And I cannot believe that four years have passed since she came down here.
We've had many discussions over biscuits at Cracker Barrel or at my kitchen table. We've bonded over TV shows, mutual affection for lazy Sunday afternoons and recently a routine of doctor's visits after she injured her shoulder over spring break.
I've seen her artwork move from horses (lots of horses) to full, beautiful displays of her talents.
I've seen her find her way through a sea of majors and minors and discover what she loves to do. With some of my favorite professors I must admit.
I've seen her grow up right before my eyes.
And in the process, we've become friends. Not just cousins. We'll always be connected by blood but now we have these last four years. The good and the bad of it all. That takes you to a different place.
I'm thankful for you Elizabeth and the time we've had to spend together! I'm excited for the life you have before you and know that there are some amazing things in your future.
Go! And be brilliant!
